Accountant

Role Purpose
To ensure timely and accurate processing, reconciliation, and payment of supplier invoices and staff expenses in accordance with company policy, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements. The Accountant supports operational efficiency by maintaining strong relationships with vendors, ensuring compliance with financial controls, and contributing to effective cash flow management within the cargo aviation business.
Key Responsibilities
1. Invoice Processing and Reconciliation
Verify and process supplier invoices in line with company policies and contractual terms.
Where applicable, match purchase orders, goods receipt notes, and invoices (three-way match) to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Ensure invoices are correctly coded to general ledger accounts.
Reconcile supplier statements to ensure all liabilities are captured accurately.
2. Payments
Perform daily knock-offs against supplier liability accounts for payments made the previous day.
Support month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately.
3. Vendor Management
Maintain and update vendor master data in the ERP system.
Respond to supplier queries and resolve disputes promptly and professionally.
Support onboarding of new suppliers in accordance with procurement and finance policies.
4. Prepayments
Identify prepayments and ensure they are recorded correctly and accurately in the ERP system. Review the release to the P&L on a monthly basis.
5. Fixed Assets
Identify fixed assets and ensure they are recorded correctly and accurately in the ERP system. Review the depreciation charge to the P&L on a monthly basis.
6. Compliance and Controls
Ensure compliance with internal financial controls, company policies, and regulatory requirements (including IATA and local tax compliance where applicable).
Assist in audit preparation by providing documentation and reconciliations as required.
Comply with VAT and withholding tax regulations relevant to aviation transactions (fuel, ground handling, airport charges, etc.).
7. Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to streamline accounts payable processes, including automation and digitalisation of invoice workflows.
Collaborate with the finance team to enhance reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
Key Interfaces
Internal: Finance, Procurement, Operations, Treasury, and Commercial teams.
External: Vendors, Ground Handling Agents, Airport Authorities, Fuel Suppliers, Maintenance Providers, and Auditors.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum 3 years’ finance experience within the aviation industry.
Working knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Navision, or similar).
Strong understanding of VAT and IFRS accounting principles.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
